Reviewing The iPad2

Now down to 0.34 inches, the iPad 2 is thinner than the original iPad and the iPhone 4This marks a great improvement. With an additional camera on the rear, it makes video calling a lot more comfortable and undemanding. Apple’s new device boasts a fast processor, 3G capabilities and plan availability not only from AT&T but from Verizon Wireless as well which makes it a good choice

But nothing is without a negative counterpart. Apple has yet to attain the pinnacle of iPad’s success. Its resolution has not evolved and Adobe Flash is yet to be available. Adapter is also needed for HDMI, USB and SD which is pretty exacting and time-consuming.

Though it has downbeat qualities, iPad remains unbeatable by figures. iPad has been branded as the niche itself for being its originator Among the tablets on the internet today, the App store still stores the most number of applications It won’t be easy to take down the iPad even if its competitors get together. Tens of millions of iPads sold amidst an economic recession really does say a lot.

Quite an amount of first gen iPad features were retained on the iPad2, particularly size, price and feel. The body is still made of the same material, alumni and scratch resistant glass, The position of the home button, frontal camera, sleep/wake buttons, headphone jack, volume rockers and mute/rotation lock switch stays put as well. Another good thing about the iPad 2 is that it comes in 2 colors– black and white– be it 16 GB ($499), 32 GB ($599) or 64 GB ($699). You have to choose your carrier (AT&T vs. Verizon) carefully since the other network’s iPad doesn’t work with the other. And should you want to 3G, you will have to add $130 on top of its monthly plan.

Another thing I like about the second gen iPad is that it didn’t make a huge fuss of compatibility, enabling fist-gen accessories, except for the original iPad cases, to work perfectly with the iPad 2. iPad 2 has a dock of its own Apple developed a protection case called Smart cover that’s made of leather and polyurethane The locks are strong rare-earth magnets on the two aluminum hinges. As much as protection is concerned, the rubber one gets the upper hand. The latter two cases are more on the looks.

The very feature of the iPad is the addition of a frontal camera that can take photos as well as record videos running on 720 p. However, even with a Carl Zeiss lens and a 10-megapixel sensor, the cameras are still pretty much akin to that of the iPod Touch which specialize video still captures. It simply cannot stand head to head with the iPhone 4, a camera or a smartphone. Whether or not it’s really worth to stay on top of the pyramid is something that only time can tell.
