It has been announced that British TV host Piers Morgan will take over Larry King’s prime time show in January.
King announced during the summer that he was leaving CNN’s “Larry King Live,” a show he began hosting in 1985.
Morgan, who is best known to American viewers as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” has recently been hosting his own show on tape edition in the UK.
CNN-US president Jon Klein said “Pierce has made his name posting tough questions to public figures, holding them accountable for their words and deeds. He is able to look at all aspects of the news with style and humor and with an occasional good laugh in the process.”
Morgan’s, as yet unnamed show, we’ll go out live on CNN-US at 9 PM ET and will be seen in more than 200 countries worldwide. He will be based in New York but will also work from London and Los Angeles.
Morgan, 45, began his career as a journalist on a local newspaper in the UK. At the age of 28 he became the youngest editor at Rupert Murdoch’s News Of The World. A year later he moved to the Daily Mirror as editable in chief and held the post for nine years.
Morgan went on to become a TV host on the BBC and ITV. He was hired by Simon Cowell as a judge on the top rated TV show “Britain’s Got Talent.”
Morgan still writes two regular columns for the Mail on Sunday newspaper in the UK, which he will continue with. He will also provide regular columns to CNN.com.
