A Spanish bullfight went horribly wrong yesterday when a bull jumped the wall into the spectators and injured 40 people as it ran amok.

Spectators tried to restrain the animal as others ran for their lives. TV footage showed one fan grabbing the bull’s tail as it marauded through the stand.

Nine people were taken to hospital in nearby Pamplona but most of the injured for cuts and bruises at the bull ring in Tafalla.

The badly injured included a 10 year old boy who suffered multiple bruising when the bull fell on him and a 24 year old who was gored.

The bull was brought under control a short while later and was eventually killed.

Similar cases of bulls leaping the walls have happened before but it is unusual for the bull to get amongst the crowd.

It was only recently that Catalans voted to ban bull fighting as it is now considered barbaric and out dated.
